Student Disability Services (SDS) coordinates scholarship opportunities to recognize and support University of Iowa students with disabilities who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and financial need.
The opportunities below are awarded annually and require a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to verify financial need. If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to us at sds-info@uiowa.edu.
Undergraduate
Ramona Ann Mayer Scholarship
The Ramona Ann Mayer Scholarship was created in 2014 to help undergraduate students with a disability complete their education. Multiple scholarships will be awarded for the academic year. Previous applicants and awardees are encouraged to reapply.
Eligibility:
- Undergraduate student registered with SDS or with documentation of a disability
- Must file a FAFSA and demonstrate financial need
Application requirements:
- Personal essay describing why you are deserving of the scholarship and how it will help you with educational expenses
- Completed scholarship application form
- Documentation of disability (if not currently registered with SDS)
Submission:
Applications must be completed through the Iowa Scholarship Portal.
Graduate and Professional
Braverman Scholarship
The David and Rosalie Braverman Scholarship was created in 1976 to encourage graduate or professional students with disabilities to advance their education at the University of Iowa. Previous applicants and awardees are encouraged to reapply.
Eligibility:
- Students with a disability who are accepted into or enrolled in a graduate or professional program at the University of Iowa
- Must file a FAFSA and demonstrate financial need
- Minimum cumulative GPA:
- 3.25 cumulative graduate or professional GPA (for students enrolled in their graduate or professional program)
- 2.75 cumulative undergraduate GPA (for students who have not started their graduate or professional program)

- Personal essay describing why you are deserving of the scholarship and how it will help you with educational expenses
- Completed scholarship application form
- Transcript (if not from the University of Iowa)
- Documentation of disability (if not currently registered with SDS)
